Just like any building is only as good as its foundation, the same is true with water features and its pond liner material and installation. These products will help you build a rock solid water feature foundation.
The two most popular methods of lining garden or koi ponds is flexible EPDM 45 mil rubber pond liner and a diy preformed hard plastic pond liner. Preformed plastic pond shells are inexpensive, but risk cracking due to weather and settling. They also dont allow for any change in pond design.
A great upgrade from a diy preformed pond liner or a perfect starting point for a new water feature is flexible EPDM garden and koi pond liner.
Flexible EPDM rubber pond liner allows you to be creative in your ponds design and makes it easy to hide edges along rocks. Simply dig out your pond shape and make sure it is free of sharp objects such as rocks, or tree roots. Then, lay down some geotextile pond underlayment and pond liner on top of it.
If you are building a pond-free waterfall in most cases because you are not below ground level (grade) you do not need to use pond underlayment. But it is still not a bad idea to use it for some additional protection from leaks.
It is important to choose a "fish safe" EPDM pond liner and not use a different material EPDM like roofing liner. The roofing industry uses chemicals that could harm or kill fish if used.
